Key West

David and I had a really great time in Key West for my 40th birthday.
I know how lucky I am to have been able to go in the dead of winter to such a pretty place, and to spend it with David.
We were late arriving in Miami because of delays in Indy.
We thought we might rent a car and drive to Key West but they got us on the next flight.
It was so beautiful coming into Miami over the ocean - Indy looked NOTHING like this when we left :)

The famous Key West roosters

On the second day of our trip we rented bikes and rode all over the island.
Key West has great sidewalks lining the perimeter of the island for walkers and bikes.
The sunny 78 degree weather was perfect for us!

We stopped along our bike tour to do some sightseeing.
At one of the forts built to protect the island over 150 years ago we saw Robert the Doll.
He belonged to a prominent family over 100 years ago.  He was blamed for all sorts of mischief over the years.
To me, he's rather creepy.

Cute gecko

A chug (the rafts that Cubans build to come across the 90 miles to Key West).  We read somewhere that there is still apparently one chug or boat a week arriving from Cuba.

The beach!  It was beautiful.

It's 5:00 somewhere (or in this case 11 a.m.)

Everyone who goes to Key West has to get their photo at the Southernmost Point.

Hemingway's Home

We enjoyed touring Hemingway's Home.  David really liked the upstairs wrap-around porch.

We saw the famous Hemingway cats - descendents of his own cats.  They were so calm - people walking through and calling to them didn't faze them.

The island lighthouse

This is a pretty house across the street from Hemingway's House and the lighthouse.  I'm ready to make an offer :)

A cool tree near Truman's Little White House

Our hotel was really pretty.  The pool area hosted a wedding the first night we arrived.

Pool bar, ahhh!

39 and holding.....

...and 40!  On our way home.

A big thank you to David for taking me on such a great trip, and to Amelia for taking such great care of the boys while we were gone!

Bonnie, I am so glad you had a great time in Key West! You look great for 40 (I have you beat by 5 years, you youngster ;P). Your pictures are fantastic. I need to get away to warm weather. We had yet another snow day here yesterday (the kids were on a delayed schedule).

Have a restful weekend :D

xoxoxo,
Ricki Jill
